Technical Specialist Position in The RNA Pirate Republic Lab at the IBF (Leioa), under the supervision of Prof. Israel S. Fernandez.

The Institute of Biophysics (IBF) is a joint research center of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC). In collaboration with Fundación Biofísica Bizkaia (FBB), the center advances knowledge on the physical and chemical processes underlying biology and disease. With FBB accredited as a Basque Excellence Research Centre (BERC) by the Basque Government, the IBF–FBB partnership enjoys a strong national and international reputation and provides outstanding shared facilities for advanced biophysical and structural biology research in a new building on the main UPV/EHU Leioa campus.

Position and Project Description

We are offering a Technical Specialist Position in The RNA Pirate Republic Lab at the IBF (Leioa), under the supervision of Prof. Israel S. Fernandez.

The research project focuses on sample preparation, data acquisition and structure determination of IRES-ribosome complexes using electron-cryo-microscopy (cryoEM) techniques. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in protein and ribosome purification, previous experience in sample preparation and data acquisition for cryoEM analysis as well as a solid foundation on single-particle data processing.

The contract is linked to the project PID2023-147463NB-I00 (“Nuevos mecanismos virales basados en RNA para el control de la traducción”) funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF/EU.

The maximum duration of the contract is until 31 December 2027.

Required Background and Qualifications

  • Experience in protein and ribosome purification and biophysical characterization.
  • Experience in cryoEM data collection using EPU software.
  • Basic understanding of the structure determination process by single-particle analysis in cryoEM.
